Teaching Aims:
Using ‘better’, ‘best’, ‘more’, ‘most’ to talk about numbers and years.

Important Points & Difficult Points
1. Learn the names of the sport events and some other new words.
2. Revise the sentence patterns ‘My favourite event is…’ ‘I like …’ etc.
2. Write the new words you learned in Units 5-7 in this word bank.
3. Ask the students to write down the new words they have learned from Units 5-7 to create their own word bank.

I. Warm up
     1. Greetings.

II. Revision
   Using ‘better’, ‘best’, ‘more’, ‘most’ to talk about numbers and years. 
III. Presentation
 . A1 Write the new words you learned in Units 5-7 in this word bank. (p.69)
   Ask the students to write down the new words they have learned from Units 5-7 to create their own word bank.
A2 Put your favourite words here. (p.69)
   Tell the students to choose from their word bank and write down their favourite words.
A3 What other words did you learn by yourself? Write them in this notebook. (p.69)
   Ask the students if they have learned any other words by themselves. If they have, tell them to write the words in the notebook.
A4 Write your favourite sentences here. (p.70)
   Ask the students to read through Units 5-7 again. Try to find out their favourite sentences and then write them down.
A5 These words and sentences are difficult. (p.70)
   Ask the students if they find any words or sentences are difficult for them. Tell them to keep a record of those difficult words and sentences and to revise them later.
IV. Practice
     1. (Books open.) Show Transparency. Revise the new words. Read aloud or play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask the students to repeat the words after you.
     2. Ask the students to make sentences with new words.
     3. Ask the students to make a dialogue with sentences.

2.  Tell the students to listen carefully the first time. Play the cassette again and ask the students to write T or F after each sentence.
3. Use Transparency to check the students’ answers.
 B  The school had a chess competition. Listen and match the names with the awards. (p.70)
Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Show Transparency. Tell the students that the children are talking about other students in the chess competition.
Tell the students to listen to the cassette. Ask the students to match the students’ names with the correct awards according to what they hear on the tape.
Use Transparency to check the students’ answers.
V. Do the exercise on page 56 in WB.
VI. Sum up

Homework:

Explain that Kate is writing her book report and talking to her mother about the book. Tell the students to familiarize themselves with the sentences
Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask the students to listen to the dialogue. Tell them to fill in the blanks and then choose the correct book according to what they hear on the tape.
Ask individual students to read aloud their sentences to check the answers with the whole class.

Tell the students to look at the chart below. Ask them to work in groups of three to act the children and talk about the contest using the information in the chart. Walk around the classroom to listen and help the students if necessary.
Ask for some groups to come forward and role-play the answers.
