Step1  Free talk
利用类比导入法,通过师生交流描述早晨上学或上班前的一些事情,使学生初步了解相关知识,为新课教学做铺垫。
T: Hello, girls and boys! Here  I have something bad about me to tell you. This morning because I got up late ,I had nothing for my breakfast and missed my bus. I had to walk to school. I was so embarrassed. Have you ever been late for school? Have you left your homework at home ? Would like to talk about it to me?
Step 2  warming up
Show students four pictures with sentences.
Picture1: By the time Tony got to school, the bell had already rung.
Picture2: By the time I came back home, John had cleaned up the room.
According to sentences above, let students fill the tense.
Picture3: By the time I got up, Jack had already gotten in the shower.
Picture4: By the time I got outside, the bus _had_ already _left_.
Lead students to notice the form:
 had + V.ed

Step 3 Listening
1b
Ⅰ.First listen with two questions.
听录音,回答下列问题。
1. How was Tina that day?
________________________________.
2. How did Tina go to school?
________________________________.

This time listen and fill in the blanks.
Boy:  Hi, Tina. You look 1.stressed out.
Girl:  I am. I had a bad morning.
Boy:  Really? What happened?
Girl:  Well, first of all I 2.overslept. By the time I got up, my brother had already gotten in the shower.
Boy:  Oh, what a pity!
Girl:  So, after he goes out of the shower, I took a quick shower and 3.got dressed. But by the time I went outside, the bus 4.had left.
Boy:  Oh, no!
Girl:  Oh, yeah! So I ran all the way to school. But when I got to school, I realized I 5.had left at home.

A.听录音,补全所缺单词或词组
Boy:  So then what did you do, Tina?
Girl:  Well, I 1.ran home to get my backpack. But when I got home, I realized I 2.had left my in my backpack. And by the time I got back to school, the bell 3.had rung.
Boy:  Oh, no!
Girl:  And by the time I 4.walked into class, the teacher 5.had started already. She asked for our homework, but of course I didn’t have it.

Step 6 Grammar
过去成时的基本用法:
1). 过去的时间可以用by, before等介词短语来表示
2). 在包含有when, until, before等连词的复合句中,如果主句谓语动词和从句谓语动词所表示的过去动作不是同时发生的,那么先发生的动作通常用过去完成时表示;
3). 过去完成时常常用在宾语从句中,这时从句中的动作发生在主句表示的过去的动作之前。

Step 7 Consoladition
Ⅰ.用所给动词的适当形式填空。
1.By ten yesterday evening, she had finished(finish)writing.
2. He had studied (study) English for five years before he came here.
3. I saw Han Mei yesterday. We hadn’t seen (not see) each other since we left Beijing.
4. She asked if Mr. Liu had already come (come) back.
Ⅱ.小小翻译家
1. A: Hi, Rose. You look happy.
B: I am. I got up early this morning. When I got up, mother had cooked breakfast for me(妈妈已经为我做好了早饭).
2. A: You must have a good breakfast.
B: Yes. Then I left for school. By the time I got to the bus stop, the bus had just arrived (公交车刚到).
3. A: Did you get to school early?
B: Yes, I did. When my classmates came, I had cleaned up our classroom.(我已经把教室打扫干净了).
